New Magical Adventure Novel for Children

I'm pleased to announce the publication of a new novel called The Children of Hare Hill. This is my first novel for children, and I hope it's going to be the beginning of a great series. Here's the blurb...

It all begins as a visit to their favourite countryside park with their mother. But when Charlotte and her younger brother Ben fall asleep in Hare Hill's walled garden, they are transported to a magical world where anything is possible. They find themselves faced with challenges and fiendish puzzles, which they must solve in order to get back to the world they know, and to discover a secret that will change their lives forever...

It's set in Hare Hill Garden, a real park managed by the National Trust close to my home in Cheshire, where I've had many adventures with my family.

The paperback edition is out now and the Kindle edition is released tomorrow.  I'm also veyr pleased to report that I'm working with a great narrator on the audiobook edition, which will be released early next year.

New Audiobook and Short Story

An update is long overdue but I'm here with a double-whammy...

First up is a project I'm very excited about. My first audiobook has hit the virtual shelves! It's an unabridged recording of my most recent novella, Drawing Dead: A Tale of Poker and Vampires.

I used the Audiobook Creation Exchange and hooked up with Alex Hyde-White of Punch Audio, who did an amazing job with the narration and production. The audiobook clocks in at just under two hours, so it's the perfect companion for a long journey or a boring afternoon in the office.

Secondly, I've just published another Kindle short story in the Gitmo Nation universe. It's called The Ninety-Year-Old Assassin and the story is set a short time after the events of One Day in Gitmo Nation.

Here's the blurb:

A ninety-year-old man lies in a critical condition after being foiled in his attempt to murder a Republican candidate for the upcoming presidential election. Hospital porter Gordon Gunderson finds himself drawn to the old man, but why would someone so old and frail try to assassinate a public figure? And what does it have to do with an event in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947?

New book - and it's free until May 1st!

Here we go - another day, another book!

This one's a new vampire story. It's a stand-alone tale of a man who is forced to play poker for his life by a group of vampires. Here's the blurb:

Eddie Nelson is a professional poker player, testing his skills in Las Vegas at the World Series of Poker for the first time. Unfortunately, he's on the worst run of his life and can't afford his buy-in to the Main Event. Then he meets a shadowy figure called Raphael who offers to back him for a fifty-fifty split of any winnings. But if he loses, he has to play in a private tournament of Raphael's choosing...

So if you want to read this tour de force of horror and suspense, you can get the ebook now for free.  All you have to do is buy it on Smashwords using the coupon code WV28B. Be quick - the coupon runs out on May 1st!

Bad News x 1 + Good News x 2

Bad News

The deal to publish One Day in Gitmo Nation has fallen through. Grit City Publications have changed direction and decided to discontinue work on most of the emotobooks that were in progress, which means it's back to being a self-publisher. But that leads me on to...

Good News #1
I'm still working with the same editor and artist I was working with in the Grit City days, Rebecca Hoffman and Darcy Babines. They're two really talented people and we're going to work together to finish off the work on One Day in Gitmo Nation to rerelease it in a state that we'll all be really proud of.

Good News #2
While I was working on the re-edit of One Day in Gitmo Nation I was also working on a number of other stories based in the Gitmo Nation universe, so I have a backlog of stories. The first one that was ready to go is a short story called The Foot on the Shore.

The Foot on the Shore is the story of an old man and his dog who find a severed foot on the beach of their small home town. Once again, this story is inspired by the discussions of Adam Curry and John C Dvorak on the No Agenda show concerning the discoveries of severed feet on the shores of Western Canada and Washington state. It's available now in the Kindle store for less than a buck, so what are you waiting for?

A Gitmo Nation Christmas Carol - Out Now!

Another week, another book! This time it's a short story based on the Charles Dickens classic with a political conspiracy twist. Here's the blurb...

It is Christmas Eve. After eight years in office, President Ebenezer Scrooge is preparing for his last Christmas Day address to the nation before leaving the White House forever. Having rescued the economy from near-bankruptcy, he plans to spend his retirement enjoying the fruits of his questionable economic policies.

But he is visited by the ghost of Jacob Marley, his first Vice President who died in mysterious circumstances seven years ago. Marley tells him the error of his ways and warns him that he wil be visited by three more spirits...
